Rock Creek Road at I-35

Bridges & Highways

Norman, Oklahoma
2011

Creative Design Resolutions (CDR), a design firm owned and operated by Steven Weitzman, was contracted to create an Aesthetic Master Plan for the I-35 Corridor Widening Project for the City of Norman, of which this bridge is a part. The master plan consists of conceptual designs for eight bridges intended to be either newly built or reconstructed. Each design reveals an aspect of the City of Norman’s culture and aesthetics.

Rock Creek Road Bridge illustrates the City of Norman’s active industries in both breeding quarter horses and crafting saddles. Herds of quarter horses, which excel at running short distances, can be seen majestically running across the length of the parapet. The wing walls and pier columns are strapped with a weave pattern representing the pressed leather of horse saddles stained to imitate handcrafted leather.
