FŌTERA® Concrete Terrazzo

2005

This public art installation incorporates FŌTERA® concrete terrazzo and engraved brick into an urban environment that spans two miles of sidewalk, connecting the Largo Town Center and Morgan Boulevard Metro stations. Thirty-six FŌTERA® concrete terrazzo panels—representative of Maryland and the City of Largo—are set into the walkway, with brick pavers engraved with poetry, quotations, and factual references spiraling outward from each icon.

Two mosaic walls complete the design—one highlighting local historic figure Garrett Morgan, and the other featuring a 20-foot compass rosette mosaic installed in front of it. Both were fabricated by Cheryl Foster. As commuters move between stations, they encounter a layered experience—reading passages and viewing the vibrant mosaics and terrazzo icons along the way.
