Throughout his fine art career, Steven Weitzman has created numerous notable bronze sculptures, including his heroic-size bronze statue of Frederick Douglass which is on permanent display in the United States Capitol Emancipation Hall and has garnered him national attention. This sculpture was commissioned by the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities and the installation was approved by an act of Congress and Presidential signature. Other figurative bronze works make up his impressive bronze sculpture portfolio, including his bronze statue of Mayor Marion Barry Jr., “Mayor for Life,” installed in 2018 on Washington D.C.’s Pennsylvania Avenue, outside of the John A. Wilson District Building.
