U.S. 19 & SR 60 INTERSECTION

Clearwater, FL.

2014

The U.S. 19 and SR 60 intersection in the City of Clearwater is part of a 2.8-mile segment of the Florida Department of Transportation’s U.S. 19 Reconstruction Project, which includes a bridge, abutment walls, and mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) walls. Inspired by the surrounding coastal environment, the design celebrates the rolling waves and seashells native to this beautiful shoreline community.

Creative Design Resolutions (CDR) developed ten unique modular form liner patterns featuring seashells and a stylized wave motif to enhance the MSE and abutment walls. The seashell designs range from densely layered shells to subtle, sand-like textures—suggesting the ever-changing interaction between land and sea. The undulating wave pattern evokes movement and rhythm, dynamically interrupting the more static shell compositions. These modular elements were reconfigured to create a distinct visual composition for each of the six walls within the intersection.
