FŌTERA® Concrete Terrazzo

2010

This 6-foot-diameter signage icon was created out of FŌTERA® concrete terrazzo, inspired by an original ink-wash painting of the “Raccoon Warrior” by Donald R. Johnson. The piece was commissioned for the Spiro Mounds Archaeological Center—the only prehistoric American Indian archaeological site in Oklahoma open to the public.

Recognized as one of the most important Indigenous sites in the United States, the Spiro Mounds are world-renowned for the extraordinary number of artifacts recovered from the Craig Mound, the site’s only burial mound. Rich in cultural resources, the Spiro Mounds were created and used by Caddoan-speaking American Indians between 850 and 1450 AD.
